PRL is a research institute of international repute under the aegis of the Department of Space, Government of India. This premier lab is a brainchild of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, who established PRL on 11 November 1947, immediately after the independence of our nation. The growth of PRL has been synchronous with India’s growth, which started with a humble beginning at Dr. Sarabhai's residence with initial focus on cosmic ray research. Over the years, PRL expanded its research domain to Astronomy & Astrophysics, Solar Physics, Atomic & Molecular Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, Planetary & Geo-Sciences, and Theoretical Physics.
